PolyWorks System Requirements
Engineered for PolyWorks. Built for Measurement Accuracy and Speed.
The official system requirements from InnovMetric will run PolyWorks—but they don’t reflect the performance demands of real-world metrology workflows. If PolyWorks is central to your inspection, reverse engineering, or quality control process, you need hardware that’s optimized for precision, stability, and responsiveness.
At Signa, we’ve built and tested PolyWorks workstations for years. Whether you’re working with large point clouds, high-resolution meshes, or live scanning data, we’ll help you configure a system that keeps pace with your inspections—not one that slows you down.
⚙️ Processor (CPU) – High Clock Speed Matters Most
Many PolyWorks operations—especially data processing, alignment, and inspection workflows—benefit strongly from high single-core performance. While some tasks can leverage multiple cores, clock speed is still a critical factor for smooth, responsive operation.
Recommended CPUs for PolyWorks:
-
Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
-
AMD Ryzen 9000 Series
These processors provide excellent single-threaded performance while offering enough cores to handle multitasking, background processing, and complex inspection jobs efficiently.
💡 Running very large scans or processing heavy point clouds regularly? We can configure systems with additional cores to better support those workloads.
🎮 Graphics Card (GPU) – Stability Is Non-Negotiable
PolyWorks relies heavily on the GPU for handling dense point clouds, high-resolution meshes, and real-time visualization. A professional-grade GPU ensures smooth rotation, fast redraws, and reliable performance with large datasets.
Top recommendation:
-
NVIDIA RTX 4000 Ada & Blackwell (Professional Series)
This card delivers strong compute and visualization performance, excellent driver stability, and is well-suited for demanding metrology and inspection environments.
GeForce vs RTX Professional GPUs:
GeForce cards can run PolyWorks, but professional RTX GPUs offer superior driver stability and long-term reliability—especially in business-critical inspection workflows. For professional and industrial use, we strongly recommend RTX Professional Series cards (RTX 2000, 4000, 5000, 6000).
🧠 Memory (RAM) – Critical for Scan Data and Multitasking
PolyWorks can consume large amounts of memory when working with dense scans, multiple inspection projects, or large polygon meshes. Insufficient RAM is one of the most common performance bottlenecks we see.
Recommended RAM:
-
Minimum: 32GB
-
Ideal for most users: 64GB
-
Heavy users (large point clouds, complex inspections): 128GB+
32GB is a workable baseline, but 64GB is the sweet spot for most PolyWorks users. If you routinely process high-resolution scan data, more memory will noticeably improve performance and stability.
💾 Storage (Drives) – Fast Access to Big Data
Storage speed directly affects how quickly scan files load, save, and process. With modern 3D scanning generating massive datasets, fast storage is essential.
Recommended storage setup:
-
Primary drive: 1TB–2TB+ NVMe SSD (OS + PolyWorks)
-
Secondary NVMe SSD: Active projects and scan data
-
Archival storage: High-capacity HDD or NAS for long-term storage and backups
Why NVMe?
NVMe SSDs use the ultra-fast M.2 interface, offering dramatically faster read/write speeds than older SATA SSDs. This means quicker project loading, faster processing, and a smoother overall experience when working with large inspection files.

Notes
¹ Clock speed (GHz): Higher clock speeds improve responsiveness during alignment, inspection, and data manipulation tasks in PolyWorks.
² NVMe SSD: Modern solid-state drive using the M.2 interface, ideal for large scan files and fast project access.
³ Speed comparison: SATA SSDs typically peak around ~500 MB/s, while NVMe SSDs commonly exceed 3,500 MB/s.
