Cloud Backup Worked Great, but Restore was a Nightmare.  Who's Got A WEEK?

Our Client had Carbonite backup service as a safety-net for her aging computer, and it worked great — backing-up 118GB of her data safely in "The Cloud."  Then one day, her hard-drive failed...  A simple hardware fix, we repaired her computer promptly... and, with a brand new solid-state drive she set off to restore her data from the cloud backup.

This is where her misadventures began.  She tried for an ENTIRE WEEK to restore the 118GB backup from Carbonite, over wifi, with her repaired PC.  Aside from being excruciatingly slow, the restore would reach 100% then fail.

In the end, we had to get creative.  We sandboxed a PC, and restored to it... took 85+ hours with cloud data arriving at an absurdly slow 400mb/sec.  It was an absolute nightmare.

Needless to say, our Client was very upset that her cloud backup "solution" had turned into a very stressful, time-consuming, and expensive problem.  Our solution: we have now installed a local NAS (Network Attached Storage) backup for her... a drive that's connected to her PC via wifi, and which does the same thing as Carbonite was supposed to do — but over local wifi, and about several thousand times faster.  ;)  Happy with a more "down to earth" solution, our Client has cancelled Carbonite and let "the cloud" blow away.
